3 inmates bolt North Cotabato prison

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Three inmates facing charges of illegal possession of explosives and illegal drugs escaped from the North Cotabato Reformatory Center (NCRC) in Barangay (village) Amas here on Wednesday morning.

Superintendent Erwin Ronqillo, chief for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in North Cotabato, on Thursday identified the escapees as Mama Mandagia Makalati alias Marco, Musanip Saplidan Kusin and Esmael Nasser alias Derbi.

Unnoticed by jail guards, the three inmates managed to get out of cell number one by destroying its padlock at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

Ronquillo said Nasser is considered a dangerous inmate as he was responsible for series of shooting incidents as well as bombings in the town of Kabacan.

“We are appealing to their relatives and those who coddle them to surrender these inmates in order not to face sanctions if caught by the authorities,” Ronquillo said.

Ronquillo said Nasser was also responsible for killing former Kabacan town vice mayor Pol Dulay who was gunned down while on his way to report to the municipal hall.

Ronquillo said it was around 5 a.m. Wednesday when the roving guards noticed a pair of slippers near the concrete wall of the cell facility few meters away from cell number one.

“We immediately conducted a head count and there we found out that three inmates were missing,” Ronquillo said.

The three escapees climbed over the concrete wall and passed through a thick forested area at the back of the jail facility.
