Jimmy Alapag, who served as a longtime national-team captain, will now be tasked to call the shots for a different kind of Philippine team.
On Saturday, Alapag was named the new head coach of Alab Pilipinas for the 2017-18 ASEAN Basketball League.
The one-time PBA MVP takes over from Mac Cuan, who guided Alab to a semifinal finish last season.
This will be Alapag’s first head-coaching job, having served as an assistant for Gilas Pilipinas and Meralco in the PBA.
“The Mighty Mouse” won six championships in the PBA. He played 13 years for TNT and two years for Meralco.
He also stood as the longtime leader for the national team.
With Alab, Alapag will still have Cuan as part of his staff.
The Philippines will see action in the ABL commencing later in the year. All of the action will be shown on S+A, S+A HD, and sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/abl.
