STA. ROSA, Laguna — Being complimented by no less than former PBA player and current San Miguel Alab Pilipinas coach Jimmy Alapag is a great feeling for Jason Brickman.
The Filipino-American point guard, who helped Mono Vampire level their series with Alab in the ASEAN Basketball League finals, has been praised by Alapag for his playmaking skills.
“It’s a great compliment from a great player from the PBA,” Brickman said following Vampire’s 103-100 Game 2 win over Alab.
“He’s doing a great coaching his team, you could tell he’s a smart coach. Just to get that compliment from one of the best point guards in the PBA it feels awesome.”
Brickman added that as a kid people compared his playmaking to that of the PBA’s “Mighty Mouse.”
“Growing up, a lot of people tell I played like him. So getting that compliment means a lot to me,” said Brickman.
Alapag has complimented the Filipino-American, saying that Brickman reminds him of basketball hall-of-famer John Stockton.
The former two-time US NCAA Division 1 player played well in front of Filipino fans here on Wednesday, scoring 15 points, dishing out 11 assists and getting 2 steals on top of 6 rebounds.
Brickman said he relished playing before basketball-crazy Pinoy fans that he looks forward to be in the PBA himself.
“I had a lot of fun and it feels great to win in front of these fans,” he said. “My mom, my aunt and uncle here. They flew out of States to watch me here. It’s awesome to play with them and they get to experience this crowd.”
Brickman said he’s already in the process of gathering the necessary documents so he could join the PBA draft.
“Hopefully I can get my papers done and play here. Just awesome fans here. It’s something I wanna do, I wanna play in the PBA. But let’s see what happens, get my paper done and get into the draft,” he said.
