Adamson's softball winning streak now at 70 games

MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Adamson University crushed University of the Philippines (UP), 7-0, in six innings to extend its remarkable winning streak to 70 games Monday in the UAAP Season 78 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Lady Falcons drew big games from reigning MVP Queenie Sababo, Annalie Benjamen, and Lorna Adorable to stay unbeaten in eight games this season.

They are just four wins away from clinching an automatic berth in the championship.

“Seventy na pala?” Adamson University coach Ana Santiago said. “Bonus na itong winning streak. ‘Yung ultimate goal pa rin namin is to win the championship.”

The winning run, which began five years ago, is the longest in any UAAP sport.

Ateneo de Manila University, meanwhile, snapped a 23-game losing skid by beating University of the East, 3-0, and University of Santo Tomas (UST) turned back National University (NU) in five innings, 7-0, to boost its own semifinals bid.

In baseball last Sunday, defending champion Ateneo downed UST, 6-3, while De La Salle University routed UP, 14-5, to move to within one win of advancing to the Finals.

Adamson dealt NU’s championship aspirations a huge blow with a 7-6 upset.

The Blue Eagles and the Green Batters now have identical 5-1 win-loss records, while the Bulldogs dropped to 3-3.

Ateneo can set up a Finals showdown against La Salle for the third consecutive season if it beats NU on Thursday.
