MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) said Thursday it has ordered the indictment of confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, convicted drug lord Peter Co and several others for drug charges.
The justice department's resolution comes after it formed a new panel of prosecutors to handle the illegal drug case.
It can be recalled that the previous panel came under fire for dismissing the drug complaints against the suspects.
The latest DOJ resolution, meanwhile, does not include alleged drug lord Peter Lim since his plea for a separate preliminary investigation was granted.
The resolution on his case is expected to soon follow.
The dismissal of charges against Espinosa and other alleged drug lords earlier this year caused public outrage and angered President Rodrigo Duterte.
This led former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to order a new investigation into Espinosa and Lim's drug case, leaving it “wide open” for new evidence and testimonies.
Aguirre later left his post and was replaced by Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
