MANILA — Actor Alfred Vargas won another term as congressman representing the 5th district of Quezon City.
Vargas (PDP-Laban) was proclaimed on Tuesday by the city board of canvassers after he got 132,047 votes of the tallied counts against the 9,064 votes of his closest rival, Lito Francisco (IND).
Vargas took to Instagram to thank those who voted for him.
A Management Economics graduate from the Ateneo de Manila University, the former Kapamilya actor is the son of the late lawyer Susana “Ching” Vargas, who previously worked as deputy executive secretary for finance and administration in Malacanang, under three former presidents, Corazon Aquino, Fidel Ramos and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Vargas served as a councilor in the second district of Quezon City.
He first won a seat in Congress in 2013 and ran for another term in 2016.
Vargas had auditioned for Star Magic Batch 10, which included Bea Alonzo, Dennis Trillo and Nadine Samonte.
