NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao is expected to miss 3 games as he takes a break from team duties, one of his assistants said on Wednesday.
According to Jojo Lastimosa, Guiao is currently in Europe vacationing with his family.
“He’s on a cruise. It’s a treat from his family to get away from the game a little bit,” Lastimosa said after NLEX lost 100-87 to Alaska, the Road Warriors’ third loss in as many games in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Sabi niya pagbalik niya, 3-0. Hindi na makukuha yung target na ’yun. We still have our next two games. Somehow, we have to figure out a way how to keep the games close up until the end.”
It has been a busy past few months for Guiao.
In February, he led Gilas Pilipinas to two victories on the road to help the Philippines national team clinch a berth in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
In the weeks after, he went on the campaign trail in the hopes of becoming the first district representative of Pampanga in Congress, but lost.
The grind apparently took a toll on Guiao, Lastimosa said.
“It’s just a good idea for the family and him to get away and forget about basketball for a while,” he added.
NLEX next plays Columbian Dyip on Saturday, June 1, then Blackwater a week after on June 8.
