UAAP: NU’s Bagunas will try his luck in Japan

MANILA, Philippines — After capping his UAAP career with a championship and a handful of awards, National University’s (NU) Bryan Bagunas will now look to take his talents abroad.

Bagunas powered the NU Bulldogs to the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball title, scoring 35 points in a four-set victory in Game 2 on Wednesday to clinch the crown. He was named Finals MVP, adding to his MVP, First Best Outside Spiker, and Best Server awards.

“Sobrang saya kasi itong pag-exit naming mga seniors, talagang sobrang history. Kasi ‘yun nga, ‘yung tatlong taon na ‘yung mga senior namin, nag-exit sila na hindi sila nag-champion,” said Bagunas.

“So parang inisip na lang namin na hindi namin paparamdam sa sarili namin ‘yung pag-exit na ‘yun,” he added.

Bagunas intends to play for Air Force in the Spikers’ Turf now that his UAAP career is over, but will also try his luck in Japan.

“Magta-try ako sa ibang bansa,” he revealed. “May kumukuha naman sa akin sa Japan.”

“Siguro, this month or next month, lilipad na ako doon,” he added.

There is a good possibility that Bagunas will wind up playing for Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler, the same team that employs former Ateneo de Manila University superstar Marck Espejo.

Bagunas exits NU with two titles and three runners-up finishes.
