MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas' (UST) men's and women's teams remained perfect as the UAAP Season 81 taekwondo tournament reached its halfway mark on Thursday at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The Growling Tigers were tied with University of the Philippines (UP) at 2-0 after Day 1 on Wednesday.
However, the Fighting Maroons bowed to University of the East, 4-3, in their first bout of Day 2, leaving the UST jins as the only unbeaten team.
The Tigresses, meanwhile, extended their winning run to three after defeating De La Salle University, 4-3.
National University joined UST on top at 3-0 as the reigning women's champions overpowered Far Eastern University, 7-0.
UP tallied a 3-1 record in second place in the men's division with a 4-3 squeaker over Ateneo de Manila University.
The back-to-back title-seeking Bulldogs scored a 6-1 victory of the Red Warriors, tying their victims in third place at 2-1.
After opening the season with back-to-back losses, the Lady Eagles jumped to third place at 2-2 after beating the Lady Tamaraws (7-0) and the Lady Warriors (4-3).
The Lady Maroons, last season's third placers, are running fourth at 1-1.
