WATCH: Cavite singer defends ‘Tawag’ title for 10th time, becomes 2nd ‘Record Holder’

A singing hopeful from Dasmariñas, Cavite on Wednesday became the second “Record Holder” of the noontime singing competition “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” after successfully defending his champion title 10 times.

John Mark Saga was given the opportunity to pick among three “treasure boxes” reserved for those with the distinction, like Elaine Duran before him.

The first box contained P50,000 — an additional cash prize to the amount of P260,000 Saga earned over his historic run. The second box had inside a TNT Records logo, signifying a chance to record a single under the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” label. The third box, meanwhile, held another “golden mikropono,” which would give Saga the power to pick a song for her semifinals opponent, should he opt for it.

“Para makatulong sa aking family at sa pag-aaral ko, I will choose treasure box number one,” Saga said.

He will go on to compete in the quarterly semifinals — a familiar situation for Saga, who previously managed to advance to that leg of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” during its last season. He, however, failed to clinch a spot in the grand finals at the time.

Duran, the first “Record Holder” before Saga, triumphed in her quarter’s semifinals and has already secured her grand finals slot.
